Dannie Lee Powell, 75, of Byesville, passed away August 12, 2025, surrounded by his family.
He was born October 17, 1949, in Springfield, OH, son of the late, Eugene Orlyn Powell and Mildred Pauline Raub Powell. Dan graduated from Graham High School, St. Paris, Ohio, was a United States Army Veteran, serving in the Vietnam War. After being honorably discharged, Dan went on to obtain his undergraduate degree from Urbana University and then obtained his master’s degree in psychology and mental health counseling from Wright State University. He worked for Noble & London Correctional Facilities until his retirement.
Dan attended Byesville Main Street Methodist Church, and he loved exercising, walking the Great Guernsey Trail with Julia, watching the Cincinnati Reds and The Lawrence Welk Show. He also loved listening to the Bee Gee’s, Willie Nelson, and occasionally, enjoying a Budweiser.
He is survived by his wife, Julia Powell; children, Laurie (Reid) Tackett, Jason Powell; step-children, Kiley Keith, Brock Keith, Arren (Alexis) Keith; brothers, Charles (Kathy) Powell, Jeff (Sherry) Powell; grandchildren, Jessica McWilliams, Samantha Chapman, McKenzie Powell, Sierra Smith, Sidney Tackett, Sophia Tackett, Sarah Keith; several cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sibling, Beverly (Larry) Gunther and granddaughter Alexis Tackett.
Private family services have been observed.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Pastor Debbie Gheen of the Main Street Methodist Church, for all of her time, compassion, and spiritual care.
